These paintings were heavily inspired by underground hip-hop music. They were mostly executed with Montana aerosol paints using stencils on found wood and material. The wood and material was salvaged from demo sites, attics, and barns, as well as more than a few dumpster diving sessions. I sometimes altered these found pieces or incorporated several found pieces in one painting. I experimented with pouring acrylic paint to dry in thick shapes that pop off the canvas and with building forms hidden within the painting panel in which to pour concrete. The paintings were constructed with careful consideration paid to the science of archivability. My main goal with these paintings was to capture a feeling and a time as it made sense to me.
